Houston Food Bank Books for Better Lives

May 27, 2020 | Blog

For the first time, the Houston Food Bank, Books for Kids and Houston ToolBank are teaming to deliver free meals and books to at least 12,000 youth across Houston this summer in a new program called Books for Better Lives.  COVID has magnified the need for access to books & lunches. It has also complicated drop-off & collection efforts.

Their goal is to collect a minimum of 12,000 books to be distributed to these extremely deserving children across our city. Please consider donating new or like-new books that are appropriate for children aged 0-18. Arch-Con (located at 1335 W Gray St, Houston, TX 77019) has been gracious enough to host a drop-off box in the first floor lobby of their building from 11-1 each weekday. We are happy to pick them up from your office, as well.

If you prefer to purchase books or donate towards their purchase, we have two options:

  1. There is a GoFundMe page for book purchases from Usborne Books. Usborne will donate 50% of those sales in additional free books. These books will be sent directly to our office.
  2. Alternatively, you can purchase and ship books from Amazon directly to our office from our preselected wish list.

The book drive ends on June 5th to give us time to clean and sort books. Please contact Ellyn Wulfe at ellyn_wulfe@gensler.com with any questions.

Thank you for helping make Books for Better Lives a reality!
