International Women’s Day (March 8) is a global day celebrating the social, economic, cultural and political achievements of women. The day also marks a call to action for accelerating women’s equality.
In honor of the holiday, GHWCC’s 100 Women Driving Arts and Education and the YWCPA are taking students from the inner city on a field trip to the Houston Grand Opera to see “Marian’s Song.”
The opera is based on the life of Marian Anderson, one of the most celebrated singers of the 20th century, who broke racial barriers throughout her storied career. This innovative fusion of opera, spoken word, and multimedia projections is conducted by Benjamin Manis.
