Tickled Pink, the American Cancer Society’s premier fundraising luncheon honoring prominent individuals in Greater Houston is scheduled for Friday, September 9, 2022 at River Oaks Country Club. This luncheon raises funds for breast cancer research, education, and support services. Attendees will arrive dressed to the nines in varying shades of pink to represent their commitment to aiding the fight to end breast cancer.
The second annual event is chaired by several of Houston’s leaders in the philanthropic community, Kelli Cohen Fein, Gina Gaston Elie, and Millette Sherman; with long-time ACS supporter and breast cancer survivor, Leisa Holland-Nelson, serving as Honorary Chair. The luncheon will honor the incredible accomplishments of noteworthy Houstonians who have contributed, and several who have survived, the fight against breast cancer. The 2022 Honorees include: Marilu Garza, Mathew Knowles, Donna Lewis, Shawntell McWilliams, Dr. Vicente Valero, Terri Wang, and Laura Ward.

The 2022 keynote speaker will be Valorie Kondos Field. Ms. Field is an acclaimed UCLA Women’s gymnastics coach, author, and breast cancer survivor. Her book, “Life is Short, Don’t Wait to Dance” is about how her diagnosis with breast cancer turned into one of the best years of her life. The book showcases her personal philosophy, “It’s not about winning and losing, it’s about choreographing your life and owning the choices you make”. Her book will be available to purchase, and be signed, at the luncheon.

Proceeds from the event benefit the American Cancer Society. The American Cancer Society has funded every major breakthrough in breast cancer research including mammography and early detection screening. This has led to a 42% decline in the female breast cancer death rate. Currently, the American Cancer Society is investing $71 million in breast cancer-specific research through 154 grants (as of August 2021). In addition, the American Cancer Society’s commitment to health equity includes a $49 million investment in research, specifically 61 health disparities research grants, to help understand cancer inequalities and create strategies for overcoming them.
