As a Board member for both the GHWCC and The Orange Show Center for Visionary Arts, I am so excited to share that Houston Art Car Parade will roll on April 9th. The Orange Show Center for Visionary Arts has worked closely with the City of Houston to host this special Houston event for over 30 years, and, OSCVA is ready to bring the joy back to our City after having to cancel the parade the last two years because of the pandemic.
There will be four days of “celebrating the artist in everyone” beginning with the Main Street Drag and Sneak Peek at Discovery Green on Thursday, April 7; The Legendary Art Car Ball on Friday, April 8; The Art Car Parade on Saturday, April 9; and closing with the Art Car Parade Award Ceremony at The Orange Show Headquarters on Sunday, April 10. I hope to see my Chamber friends at the fun upcoming Art Car events. For more detail on parade weekend details, please visit: https://www.thehoustonartcarparade.com/parade-weekend
Here are a few fun stats about this year’s parade: 114 of the entries are brand new, never-before-seen by the public; 98 are daily drivers meaning their entry is their primary form of transportation; 41 are coming to Houston from over 100 miles away; there are 20 incredible lowriders, 6 iconically Houston SLABS; and 28 school or youth group entries. I hope that while you’re enjoying the art car festivities you will find inspiration of your own and maybe next year you’ll be waving out of the driver’s seat in your own entry – all it takes is an idea, a set of wheels, and “the drive to create!”
