Small business lending in the Greater Houston region continues to show strong momentum, according to new data from the U.S. Small Business Administration’s Houston District Office. In FY 2025 alone, SBA 7(a) loan activity reached 1,806 loans, a 19% increase over the prior year, while SBA 504 lending grew by an additional $35 million. Women-owned businesses remain a significant driver of this growth: between FY 2023 and FY 2026, 33% of all SBA loans in the Houston District Office—totaling 1,648 loans and nearly $969 million—went to women-owned businesses. In FY 2025, women entrepreneurs accounted for 31.44% of SBA loans locally, closely aligning with the 31% national average. This growth reflects the strength of Houston’s small business ecosystem, driven by close collaboration among SBA lenders, the SBA Houston District Office, and its Resource Partners, including the GHWCC Women’s Business Center, whose joint initiatives, educational programming, and outreach efforts continue to help small businesses—particularly women-owned enterprises—access capital and scale successfully.
