Nanodrug Research That Activates the Immune System

University of Houston pharmacology researcher Wei Gao received a $900,000 grant from the Cancer Prevention and Research Institute of Texas to develop Nano-273, a dual-function nanodrug that stimulates the immune system to fight pancreatic and lung cancers by activating key immune pathways and reducing cells that suppress immune responses. Early studies show the treatment shrinks tumors and extends survival in models, and the team plans further preclinical work to advance the therapy toward clinical use.
