Mayor Sylvester Turner inspired several ovations, but none empowered the audience more than when he expressed his love for Houston in his final message: “What I can say to Houstonians is that I have given you my best,” he said, his voice momentarily breaking with heartfelt emotion, “and I am proud of the city that I shall pass forward.”
