Archaeologists in south Wales have unearthed 41 skeletons thought to have lived around 500-600 AD. The mostly woman skeletons show evidence of arthritis and degenerative joint disease, signifying a tough existence working in agriculture. “They weren’t a very healthy bunch of individuals, but they were caring for each other,” project leader Andy Seaman said, citing evidence of healed leg fractures and one instance of a broken neck, believed to have resulted from agricultural accidents.
