Leaders from the Greater Houston Women’s Chamber of Commerce (GHWCC) Mexico Chapter recently traveled to Mexico City to meet with key figures and launch new programs aimed at advancing women and girls in Mexico. The delegation was led by Suzan Deison, CEO/President/Founder of the GHWCC, who addressed the Mexico Senate, the Electoral Court, and the Consejo Coordinador Empresarial (CCE), Mexico’s leading organization representing the private sector. Other GHWCC leaders who were part of the delegation were Maria Martinez, Murphy Oil & the 2024 GHWCC Chair of the Board, Houston City Council Member Tarsha Jackson, Houston City Council Member, Tiffany Thomas, Jeanna Bamburg, Woman’s Hospital of Texas, Brandee Rogers, Hines, Mady & Ken Kades, Kades Corporation, Beth Young, Colliers International and Henry Hagendorf, Tanglewood Property Management and Mary Moreno, Council Member Tarsha Jackson’s office.
“We are honored to partner with Mexico for the advancement of women and girls by introducing educational programs that have been tremendously successful here,” said Suzan Deison. “We launched our partnership ten years ago, and it is inspiring to see how far our Chapter has come. We congratulate all the Mexican women who have made significant strides in empowering businesswomen in Mexico and opening doors for the next generation of leaders.” GHWCC Mexico Chapter includes STEM Town Mexico, Love What You Do, Women on Board and Women Business Centers.
Ms. Deison expressed her gratitude to Francisco Cervantes, President of the CCE, Mexico, Elena Palacios, and Soraya Cervantes for their leadership over the past decade. “It is because of their leadership that our Mexico Chapter is thriving today,” she added. Special thanks were also given to Maria Elena Orantes, Consul General of Mexico in Houston, for “jumpstarting” the initiatives that have strengthened the GHWCC’s influence in Mexico.
“It was an honor to represent the GHWCC on its recent trip to Mexico City. I am proud we are fostering this important partnership and aiding in the development and implementation of our programs that focus on the advancement of girls and women in STEAM. We are excited to work alongside the strong team in Mexico City that is also passionate about these initiatives and will help inspire the next generation of female leaders. And, of course this was special to me as it ties to my Hispanic heritage,” said Maria Martinez, 2024 GHWCC Chair of the Board.
