The GHWCC Women Supporting Arts Committee has been committed to supporting the students at Young Women’s College Preparatory Academy. The YWCPA is a HISD magnet school for middle school and high school female students.
On Saturday, April 13, 2024, the YWCPA had an entry “Save Our Seas” in the 37th Annual Houston Art Car Parade, which is hosted by the Orange Show Center for Visionary Art. Team Gillman, the presenting sponsor of this year’s Orange Show’s Art Car Parade, donated 10 cars to Houston schools, and, YWCPA was one of the recipients.
Paige Hinson, a very talented YWCPA Art Teacher, along with 20+ YWCPA students transformed a 2001 Lexus RX into rolling art covered with many paper mache sea creatures that were made in YWCPA art classes, plastic water bottles, and LED lights. The art car, “Save Our Seas,” theme was to bring awareness to the pollution in our oceans, which make up 71% of our planet and contains 50-80% of all life on earth. Ms Hinson and the students did an absolutely ncredible job, congratulations to their team!
