The World Bank’s Women, Business and the Law 2026 report shows that although legal protections for women’s economic participation average about 67.9 out of 100 globally, only 4 % of women live in economies close to full legal equality, and enforcement and supportive systems lag behind, scoring much lower. It also highlights real progress, with 113 legal reforms across 68 economies improving laws on entrepreneurship, safety, and parental leave, and notes that closing gender gaps in employment and business could boost global GDP by more than 20 %.
