Honoring Hispanic Heritage: A Month of Culture, History, and Impact

Hispanic Heritage Month is a time to honor the rich history and vibrant culture of Hispanic and Latino communities. From September 15 to October 15, extra recognition is given to the incredible contributions that have shaped the United States—from influential advocacy and captivating art to beloved traditions and flavors. Houston comes alive with opportunities to celebrate and reflect during this special month!

How to celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month in Houston?

There are many different events and celebrations for Hispanic Heritage Month coming over the next few weeks in the Houston area.

Discovery Green is hosting El Festival de la Salsa, a festival featuring dancing and food, on Sept. 22 from 1 to 10 p.m.

The Miller Outdoor Theatre will have multiple fun events throughout the month. One is a Mexican Independence Day celebration on Sept. 15 with a Grito ceremony and then music from Caña Dulce y Caña Brava. Another is the 45th Annual Festival Chicano from Oct. 3-5 with each day featuring multiple performers.

The Houston Astros will have a full weekend of celebrations from Sept. 20-22 when they host the Los Angeles Angels. Gameday giveaways include a Jose Altuve Los Astros jersey and a Los Astros Wearable Flag plus a Hispanic Heritage Street Festival ahead of Saturday’s game.

At the Children’s Museum Houston, a Hispanic Heritage Celebration jumpstarts the month on Sept. 14 with pinata decorating, a Flamenco show, a mariachi band and more.
