Honored for Her Transformative Impact on Sports, Philanthropy, and the City of Houston
HOUSTON – A trailblazer in sports and philanthropy, Janice McNair has left an indelible mark on the city of Houston—transforming lives & impacting communities. In recognition of her incredible impact, Mrs. McNair has been selected to receive the 2025 Houston Sports Awards Lifetime Achievement Award.
As the Co-Founder and Senior Chair of the Houston Texans, Mrs. McNair has been a pillar in Houston since moving to the city in 1960. She is celebrated not only for her role in returning the NFL to Houston but also for her unwavering commitment to the city’s continued growth.
“The impact that Mrs. McNair has left on the City of Houston and surrounding areas is truly immeasurable,” said Daniel Gotera, Sr. Director of Communications for the Harris County – Houston Sports Authority. “Since her and Bob brought the NFL back to Houston, not only have we seen her passion and kindness on full display, but we’ve also witnessed the true power of using a platform for good. Mrs. McNair loves her team and this city. Her life’s work is absolutely worth celebrating.”
Since the Texans’ inception in 1999, she has built a legacy of community investment, supporting countless charitable causes and initiatives alongside her late husband, Bob McNair. The McNairs have been generous philanthropists, focusing on education and medical research as cornerstones of their giving. To date, Bob and Janice have contributed more than half a billion dollars through their various foundations to charitable causes, leaving an enduring impact on countless lives.
The Houston Sports Awards Lifetime Achievement Award recognizes individuals who have made a positive impact on the sports world and the Houston community. By receiving this honor, McNair joins a distinguished group of trailblazers whose contributions have shaped the city’s rich sports legacy and inspired future generations.
