Personal Journey
Can you share a bit about your personal journey and what led you to your current position?
I began my career working for a city council representative in my hometown of El Paso, Texas, where I developed a passion for building relationships, community engagement and connecting people to resources. Driven and goal oriented, I left my friends and family behind and relocated to Houston in 2012 to pursue greater opportunities. With almost 20 years of experience, I am blessed to continue to help strengthen communities as the VP of Philanthropy and Community Impact for Wells Fargo for the Greater Houston Market.
Advice for the Next Generation
How important is networking, and what strategies do you suggest for building a strong professional network?
Networking is essential for career growth, professional development and business opportunities. Business is built on relationships. Networking connects you to opportunities, provides support and helps you stay informed about industry trends. Some strategies for building a strong professional network I would suggest are: attending industry events, joining professional associations, leveraging social media, volunteering, seeking mentorship, staying in touch and being authentic.
Importance of Giving Back
What initiatives or programs within the Chamber are you most passionate about and why?
I love to see the impact of the GHWCC “STEAM Town USA” program, in a world where science and engineering careers are still predominantly male-dominated. The efforts of the Greater Houston Women’s Chamber of Commerce in opening pathways and inspiring young girls to achieve their dreams and break barriers is truly commendable. Their work helps create a more inclusive and diverse future in STEM fields.
