One of the greatest investments we can make is in the next generation of entrepreneurs.
Last week, the Greater Houston Women’s Chamber of Commerce had the privilege of celebrating the graduates of the Future Founders Program, an inspiring initiative created through a partnership with the City of Houston Office of Business Opportunity, Council Member Tiffany D. Thomas, and the Houston Public Library.
Designed for students ages 10–13, the weeklong program introduced participants to the fundamentals of entrepreneurship, innovation, financial literacy, marketing, customer service, leadership, and business development. But perhaps the most important lesson was one that cannot be found in a textbook; the confidence to believe in an idea and present it to others.
As I watched these young entrepreneurs take the stage, I saw more than student presentations. I saw future business owners, innovators, community leaders, and employers.
Each student developed and pitched an original business concept, including:
- CRT Landscaping
- Guardian Bug Spray
- Game Time Headphones
- Animal Safety Guard
- Double S Construction – Homebuilders
Their presentations reflected creativity, thoughtful problem-solving, and an understanding that successful businesses exist to meet real community needs.
For the Greater Houston Women’s Chamber of Commerce, this partnership represents exactly why our mission matters. Building a stronger economy doesn’t begin when someone opens their first business, it begins by encouraging young people to think creatively, identify opportunities, and develop the leadership skills that will serve them throughout their lives.
Programs like Future Founders also demonstrate the power of collaboration. When government, educational institutions, nonprofit organizations, and the business community come together, we create opportunities that can shape futures for years to come.
