Betty Reid Soskin, who became the oldest serving National Park Service ranger and spent her later years sharing firsthand experiences of life on the World War II home front and advocating for more inclusive history in America’s parks, died at 104 at her home in Richmond, California. She joined the National Park Service at 85 and retired at 100 after a remarkable life that included civil rights activism, entrepreneurship, authorship, and preserving overlooked stories of women and Black Americans’ contributions during the war.
