The River Oaks Theater should be reopened by the end of the year.
That’s the word from Culinary Khancepts, an affiliate of Sugar Land-based Star Cinema Grill which took over the lease of the property in 2022. The company announced Wednesday that the major renovation is starting on the theater at 2009 W. Gray, which has been sitting idle for two years after the previous tenant, Landmark Theatres, couldn’t come to a lease renewal agreement with then-landlord Weingarten Realty. Subsequently, Weingarten was bought out by Kimco Realty, the Jericho, NY company that now owns the River Oaks Shopping Center, including the River Oaks Theatre.
According to a release, “the highly anticipated refresh is expected to be completed by the end of 2023.”
