Women stand proudly in the long line of our nation’s warriors. On June 12, 1948, the passage of the Women’s Armed Services Integration Act enabled women to serve as permanent members of the U.S. Armed Forces. But women’s contributions to our nation’s defense are much older. Nearly 3 million women have served in or with the U.S. Armed Forces since the American Revolution, and we honor all their service. With Texas being the home of the largest population of women veterans in the country, learn more about the state’s recognition of this year’s Women Veterans Day


According to the Department of Veterans Affairs, Texas has roughly 177,500 women veterans. This is the largest number of women veterans of any state. During the 85th legislative session in Texas, State Representative Victoria Neave filed House Bill 2698 to designate June 12 each year thereafter as Women Veterans Day, a day to recognize and honor women veterans throughout the state.
