Despite the noteworthy drop in capital invested in women-led startups in 2022, Ariane Goldman didn’t manage to just snag a $10 million growth funding round for her New York City-based maternity clothes brand, Hatch. She also gained control of her three biggest competitors.
A month after the deal went through at the end of 2022, Goldman, 45, became leader of Hatch Collective, a newly created company that includes the legacy brands Motherhood Maternity, A Pea in the Pod, and Destination Maternity. Now she’s figuring out how to run a much larger organization through what is likely to be a prolonged period of economic uncertainty. The good news? People keep having babies, and if the pandemic has taught her anything, it’s how to stretch a dollar.
