There are 230 law schools in the country. However, until recently it was rare to see a Black woman in a law school dean position. Even today, they number only 28. A recent article in the publication 19th confirms the importance of a strong network of encouragement and support for women in reaching their career goals. In interviews with eleven of the Black women deans, the majority of those interviewed said they decided to pursue a dean position after being encouraged by other people, usually other women of color.
