Houston Remains a Leader in Family Affordability

A new SmartAsset study found that the Houston-Pasadena-The Woodlands metro is one of the more affordable major U.S. cities for families, with the annual cost of raising one child estimated at $22,605 in 2026. While childcare remains the largest expense at $10,265 per year, Houston’s total cost ranks below other large Texas metros like Dallas-Fort Worth and Austin, making it a comparatively budget-friendly place to raise a family.
