Rubin Observatory Unveils New Images

The Vera C. Rubin Observatory in Chile has unveiled its first “first‑light” images which include stunning views of the Trifid and Lagoon Nebulae and the Virgo Cluster captured by its record-breaking 3.2-gigapixel LSST camera during a multi-night May 2025 test run. In just ten hours of commissioning observations, the observatory also discovered over 2,100 new asteroids, demonstrating the transformative potential of its decade-long sky survey to revolutionize our understanding of dark matter, transient cosmic events, and Solar System objects.
